LOOKING UP by Carla Cantrelle Directed by Giovanna Sardelli
with Carla Cantrelle and Bryant Mason
LOOKING UP began as a monologue piece inspired by a circus
class. I performed it (originally titled TRAPEZE) at the Knitting Factory as
part of a “New Works” evening and realized it would be far more effective if I
performed portions on the
trapeze. With the aerial element added (along with an additional actor in a
small role) the piece was accepted into the American Living Room Festival. The
success of that performance led to a residency at the 78th Street
TheaterLab to develop it into a full-length play. Re-titled LOOKING UP, the play premiered at the prestigious (and
competitively programmed!) Assembly Rooms at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in
2002.
Now the two-character romance will have its U.S. premiere
at The Theater for the New City.
